Default engine suggestions please help need some advice

so i have a lq4 with the cam unknown i bought the truck how it is it ran good and is now broken basically because it jumped time and ended up dropping a valve cylinder scored pretty good and pisyon broken . basically on a decent budget so im ging to get a pullout and rebuild it anyways hone cylinders new piston rings and all new bearings , but if i can find a lq9 whats the difference besides flat top pistons and how good would it be if i put on 243 heads and if i can only find an lq4 would it be worth getting 243 heads i have a good friend saving them for me to buy . of course the heads will probably need new valves and springs he wants 400 for the set would it be better to just buy some decent ones or rebuild those? gonna swap my cam back into whatever i get but im not sure on the specs until i mic it out and ill need the proper head gasket due to clearance. just want opinnions from others setups

High hopes and low budgets don't mix very well.

Give us a call. We have the parts you need to build it yourself or can build you the LQ9 you are looking for. Our LQ9 370 short block is only $2399, We can port your heads for $750 and with a good cam kit for $684.99 the combo will make you the 5xx HP goal you are looking for. Let me know if you would like any help with this or have any questions.
Thank you,
Kyle

243's can be had fo4 around $350 if you look around. That's why your friend is "saving" them for you to buy. LOL if you are going with a junkyard short block you can have a hell of a time finding the LQ9. Thompson's prices seem great if you decide to go that route. 243 heads can make some great power. If you have the money, buying from an engine builder that only builds motors is the way to go. I built my first LS motor before there were many dedicated LSX builders and now I can buy one built for the same money I have in it.

There are tons and tons of people making stupid power with LS1 combos on very small budgets. You just gotta know your ****.....and have a little luck on your side.

I didn't say his combo would work. A 6.0 and a few hundred dollar turbo and some fab work= 500 + HP, no problem.

Lq9s and newer lq4s have stronger rods. I think 05+ lq4s? Not sure w/o looking.

243s are good for a .5 point static compression on a lq9.

Keep the 317s if you're going to boost it. 500 crank hp 6.0 is possible. Prob not cost effective. Mine put down 391 rwhp with stock heads.

There should be numbers on the back to ID it. If it's a Comp cam, it will have the lobe numbers, the LSA, and how much advance.
