Grand Prix of Houston officials unveiled today the track layout for the Champ Car World Series’ return to the Texan city after a five-year hiatus, on May 11-13, 2006, in an event which will also feature the American Le Mans Series.

The 1.7-mile temporary street circuit is at a different location from the old downtown layout that was home to CART racing from 1998-2001. Set up at the Reliant Park complex, the venue will play host to Champ Car’s first-ever night street race.

“We developed a track that will challenge and excite the world’s best drivers,” stated Houston GP CEO Mike Lanigan, who doubles as co-owner of the Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing Champ Car team. “We want to maximize speed and create passing opportunities to electrify the drivers and race fans alike.”

“Reliant Park provides over 345 acres to develop a unique driving experience,” added track designer Martyn Thake. “The Grand Prix of Houston will be one of the most exciting races on the Champ Car schedule and contains all the necessary features and structures to create a world-class fan experience.”

Lanigan also announced Robert Dale Morgan to the position of Executive Director and Chuck Kosich to the position of General Manager of the Houston GP.
