A good place can be anywhere, actually.
A gravel pit....
In front of a wall at night....
The trashy side of town....
At the track....
In someones shop....
Or even in a parking garage....
I've been thinking about doing some shots around George R Brown convention center, but I haven't really had the time. Memorial drive area might have some interesting prospects. So would the roof of a parking garage in Downtown (wanna try that one too.) Good luck!

excellent photos HRJ!
This one was shot at your typical truck loading dock on the backside of a store. Just walked up the stairs and shot down on the car:
In front of a nice glass building off of Eldridge, South of I-10 West:
Finish line at Houston Motorsports Park:
The street in front of my house (cul-de-sac) standing on a 8' ladder:
Any clean/new parking lot, standing on a light post base:
Building on beltway 8 west side, south of I-10 West:
Building in downtown Houston:

I really like the upper perspective shots. Very nice! Gives you a new and fresh view of the lines of the car. Plus, like you mention, you can do those just about anywhere and not have to worry too much about a cluttered up background. I don't do those enough....
I also like to see other shots that show little details of the car. And typically, you don't need to worry about the background at all with these. The driveway works just fine in these cases.
