strongest 10-bolt question
Just me wondering who here has built up the stock 10-bolt and what is the fastest you ahve run and the hardest you have launched..
It seems like if you went with the 28-spline axles, eaton posi ect ect, i dont see why that rear couldnt hang with some 4500 and up launches from the m6

Im not going to do it but i dont see why that rear wouldnt hold...
i launch a 8.5 10 bolt on the trans break at 5000 and im just curious to see if anyone else has built the 7.5 10 bolt up and have done the same on trans break or m6..
I think it would work for a while and put more power to the ground but dont know if it would last or not.

can an 8.5 be retro fitted to an f body? I mean if the center section has a place for the the torque arm, that is the biggest hurdle right? Although if it was I am sure someone would have already done it.
too bad a good rear costs 2000 dollars

my dad started building a 8.5 10 bolt for his 86 z that is set up just like our cars but he was going to run ladder bars under the car instead of the torque arm.
But..... He just started back halfing it instead and built a narrowed dana 60... haha going a diffrent route now lol.

You could throw $1000 worth of parts at the rear and still not even address the weakest point in the rear end. On a hard launch the crush sleeves compress and the pinion bearings lose their preload, leading to premature failure. You can eliminate this from happening by switching over to the Ratech solid sleeve and shim kit but you better be spot on in the adjustment.
Now you've spent $1000-1500 to strenghten a rear axle with a very small ring gear and pinion to begin with. To make it legal you need to install bolt in axles and ditch the C-clips, which can be done but it's even more money you should spend on something better.
