Default Windows non-genuine warning

Apparently, my copy of windows xp is not "genuine", and after a recent update, I now have several messages on startup and on the desktop saying the same thing. Any idea how to get rid of it ? I bought the computer second hand and really didn't want to purchase a new copy.

buying a genuine copy is pretty much the only way to get rid of the message. im pretty sure about 70% of people have a "copy" of windows.

I would avoid the updates if you dont have a legal copy of windows. I might have a legal copy for a couple people if any of you guys wanna reload XP pro. I dont wanna burn and send copies to all you guys, but i can share a legal license.

If you config your OS not to search for updates, and then reboot the machine your issue should clear up.

Go to system restore (if you can get there: Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore) and restore it to a date before it ran the update. Then turn off automatic updating.

You could always call them and get a legitimate license. Just tell them you bought the system off E-Bay or something and didn't know it wasn't legit.

Every one breaks a couple laws now and again, not like dumping nuclear waste in a play ground or any thing

It's called piracy that's why software costs so much, it's also called cost of doing business, if they can't afford the software they shouldn't be in business.
