look what hit the road in DFW (MUST SEE)
came across this at, of all places an aircraft museum/air show over memorial day weekend in DFW.
the guy bought it from a museum in Australia recently, had it shipped to the States, and drove the car to the show. it's street legal here, where in Australia he says that it's not due to the hood penetration and side pipes. this is not the original car from the movie, but a reproduction. according to the owner the original car actually never really existed, just a plastic mock-up made to look real since the movie makers weren't allowed to drive such a car on the highway in Aussie Land. however the car has been reproduced in every detail right down to the machete hanging inside the drivers door and twin 75 gallon fuel tanks in the rear.
claims he's only been pulled over 'a few times, so that the cops could get their picture taken next to the car'
now, if I could just remember the name of that dang movie..........

Yeah. I was just pulling yer chains. I almost soiled my shorts when I saw this thing. sad thing is that the car in the movie never really existed so this was built to represent it.
glad to see it here tho!
I'll be watchin for it going down the road. says he only drives it on weekends.

The car also reprised its role in The Road Warrior. Sadly, it didn't make it to the third installment, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. The dual fuel tanks were added for Road Warrior and were not on it in the original Mad Max movie.
Here is a complete history of the Interceptor from the movies:
