Default Rev limiter issue or transmission???

My 1999 LS1 engine has 119000 mi on it. It still runs strong and is in good shape. Majority of the miles are over the road miles. I have all of the bolt on's and recently installed a cam. Now when I get on it (especially in 1st and 2nd the rev limiter (I'm assuming) causes the motor to cut out. After talking to my tuner he said he thinks it might be the high miles on the tranny causing this and not an issue with the tune. I hate to put in a new tranny or have it rebuilt if this is something that can be cured with a little time on the dyno. What do you guys think?

Mine doesn't do it until it hits 6500 RPM, but it didn't do this at all until I installed the cam and had it re-tuned.

My car would let go like that at like 5500 and rev all the way up to the rev limiter. Guess what happened a few thousand miles later. I lost second gear and reverse in my tranny. You might not have noticed it until now because of the added power from the cam. Stock these cars shifted around 6500 anyways, so that is why you wouldnt have noticed it.

A well built tranny is definitely good to have and if you have a lot of miles on the current tranny then the odds are that's the culprit, but to make sure the tuning isn't creating the problem, drop you wot shift mph down 5-8 and lower your wot shift rpm about 500 rpm. See if it shifts before tagging the limiter. Some tuning OS will incorrectly interpret some parameters (Imperial vs Metric) especially in the Speedometer tables where trans shaft rotation is calculated so it sees incorrect values and isn't trying to shift yet. You could also log with a scanner and see if the shift is being commanded. Converters can tend to over shoot which is normal, but with in reason.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses guys. I have learned a lot since being a member of this site. I love it too. Can you guys send me a pm on your dealings with Century? Like to know what you had done, how long they had it and what it cost you.
