Default Run from the police!!!

It's official - if you don't want a traffic ticket in Houston, just floor it!! They now have an official policy to NOT chase people for "minor traffic offienses".

In other words, you can have fifty pounds of cocaine in your car, fail to signal a lange change and you now do not have to worry about getting stopped - just FLOOR it.

You can pile a bunch of severed heads in your back seat, and you NEVER have to worry about getting pulled over - just FLOOR it!

This is an EXCELLENT move that will SURELY help lower the ever increasing crime in the city of Houston.

I swear, the mayor and the chief of police are a pair of the biggest idiots in the state when it comes to crime...

Well, with a camera at every intersection, highway, toll plaza, and shopping mall, I don't think too many will truly get away.

Wait, what was I thinking?

Here's the advice to the Police Chief: Have another. You're doing a fine job!

letting a small time coke trafficker not have to deal with a car chase beats a car chase over somebody doing 10 over that ends in the death of an innocent person

Our Chief took out the same policy, except we can go 10mph over the speedlimit for a felony WTF? All because a local officer had a wreck a while back and killed somebody b/c he flew through an intersection I think.

I never understood why the Police were allowed to chase a suspect over minor violations. Now....if the suspect was thought to be intoxicated, had a hostage or say was driving a tank through the city. That's a judgement call for the CO I guess?

Yet, to go all 5 alarm fire on a guy who's just trying to avoid getting his 3rd strike doesn't make any sense to me. Why risk all these people's lives? Just let him go and pick him up later, if it works out that way.

Again, it has to be a judgement call by the C/O though, obviously in some instances detaining the suspect is the best and only option.

What if the person decided to run because he had someones kidnapped kid in the trunk? You just never know why that person is running, could be he is drunk... could be your kid in the trunk.

i agree, people don't run from a traffic ticket. they usually have warrants or crack.

well you can run, but with the eye in the sky you wont get very far unseen. obviously cant leave the city limits, apparently the law is only for within the city, or even county (whats the difference really, lol). once youre outta the city..... dps got yo ***.

Why run and risk getting charged with a felony though? Is it really worth it over a stupid ticket?

Don't think this applies to the DPS or Harris County within the city, just to HPD.
