Default #799 Castings? Help Please!!!

I recently bought and received a set of heads off of Ebay that were advertised as 6.0Liter heads from a 2005 Trailblazer. I was thinking that those should be #243 castings. What I got are #799 Castings. These appear to be for the 5.3 Liter engine. How bad are these heads? Do they compare at all to the 243 castings? The exhausts are D shaped and I found that the chambers are 65cc. Can I use these heads on my 2001 Trans Am for any gain? I was planning on matching to the Z06 cam. Help please!!!!

never heard of a 799 casting, but why would you go through the trouble of a heads/cam swap and only swap to a z06 cam? thats a total waste of time and money.

clicked the search button, looked for about 30 seconds and found this info.

actually, after doing some searching the only reference to a 799 head cassting on this site i found are the two posts that you have made. you sure you are reading the right #s?
Well I haven't been drinking and I'm not quite blind. The castings are #799. There is a post that Gunnar from Patriot posted about them. As for the head and cam swap, I'm doing it for (1) the money. Under $500 for heads, cam, and no tuning. (2) The Z06 cam gets beat-up all the time, but it puts down the numbers still (360 to 390 horse). This is a daily driving (as in every day) car and I don't want a serious cam lope. I'm probably going to put a stroked LS2 or L-92 in down the road, but for now, it's an easy weekend job.

But, gee, thanks for the post?

I can't figure out why the Z06 cam either. I know you arent going to be running boost with those heads raising you well up to 11:1 CR. Unless you are trying to be really stealthy.....that was the only thing that I could come up with.

EDIT* Just read your new above response. Makes total sense.

Thanks. Trust me, I'd probably go and buy MTI's Stealth II cam as I like it much more, but it requires a tune ($500), better Valve Springs ($150), needs headers for sure ($600-$1300), so a Z06 cam new at Scoggins is only $229 and the heads I got were cheap. But, then again, nothing is easy......

you can run a bigger cam without a tune. 405hpta (justin) runs an mti R1 cam, makes way up over 400 to the tires (stock heads, untuned) and drives it EVERYWHERE EVERYDAY.

btw, those heads you have probably wont really help anything, they will raise your compression which will help but they wont flow as good as what you already have. the 5.3 heads have a much smaller intake valve than the LSX heads.

How is a higher velocity head not any better than what he already has?

LS2 (w/ 243 castings) didn't come in TB's untill 2006.

Have you thought about sending those hoes back?

Didn't know that about the TB's. Oh well, I guess I'm just not as smart as I think I am.

I e-mailed the guy I bought them from so hopefully he won't be a dick and will refund me the cash. He advertised them as part #12564825 and that they are Corvette and 6.0 liter truck heads. I should have just asked what casting # they had. Like I said, not so smart. Must be age....

if you payed through paypal and the guy won't co-operate, then you can file a claim with paypal, and you will get your money back.
