NEW LS-X CAST IRON BLOCK -- 2500 HP!
While roaming the pits at the U.S. Nationals an operative picked up this juicy hardware tidbit from a source who has some strong links to GM Performance Parts. In the very near future (like a few months) you’ll be able to go into your neighborhood GM dealer and buy an LS-X cast iron small block that will support up to 2500HP and is scheduled to cost less than $2,000. Where do we sign up for this bargain?
This new small block has high-nickel content, and it was designed by Pro Stock Champ Warren “The Professor” Johnson and GM engineers to accept LS Gen III and IV parts. It will come direct from GM in “tall deck” configuration, but can be machined to standard deck height. Think of it as a Universal LS small block that will support cast-iron LS-1 racing into the future.
Plus, wait for it. . .a big-block cast-iron version is in the plan for you to get at your GM Performance Parts counter. These guys are going to be some kind of popular.
The first LS-X small blocks are scheduled to arrive in the U.S. by mid-Sept. and expected to be in wide distribution later this fall. We can hardly wait to see what you Chevy mavens come up with when you get your hands on this hardware. [9-13-2006]

Kinda makes you wonder what the initial use for this block was. GM normally dosent make a block like this unless its gona be used on some pro level also. C5-R block for example.
