Default Insurance ripping me on totalled?

Maybe someone can help me decide whether I should get a lawyer or something. Insurance will only give me 17,350 for the car
Here's my car: 43,500 miles on the clock, was in MINT condition before smashed by uninsured driver. They also want $4,600 for me to buy it back for parts.

am I crazy or am I getting screwed?
Thanks,
Kyle

They must either pay you what it is worth or find you one just like it. I would go take every aftermarket part off of it and let them have the car. I mean EVERYTHING. Find someone with shitty stuff to replace it with. Got leather? Take it out and put some old cloth seats in it. Take the gears out and put some stock ones back in. Who cares if they arent setup right. They wouldnt give my buddy **** for his totaled fox body so by the time we were done with it it wouldnt even start. They never said a word.

Yeah I know of a guy who ripped out the LS1 and put some piece of crap back in. Talk about doin them dirty. I doubt it ran so just find you a cool *** bodyshop and learn a thing or two about the insides of your car. I got 15,340 for a 00 SS with 735XX mint condition.

pull off every little thing you can get/want, then take the 17k and buy another decent Z for 13-14k, and put all your goodies back on the new car. and you pocket a few k.

DO NOT TAKE THEIR FIRST OFFER!

You're going to have to do the leg work. Look all around the internet and find what similar cars in similar conditions are selling for. Print out like 20 of them and show it to the adjuster, you might have to get your agent to help you.

I ended up getting 50% more than my 1st offer by holding out, and doing that.

Insurance adjusters get paid to low ball and save the co. money, they're kinda like car salesman.

That is not too bad. You are not going to be able to sell the car for to much more then they are offering you.

They will not let you takae parts off of the car unless it is bought back from them. So do the math to see if it is worth it.

That was their first offer, I'm going to shoot for 18,500 and then buy it back to put the engine/tranny in an older camaro. Seems like they weren't showing some of my options on their system and therefore were trying to get by not paying me for them...I have to prove to them that I'm not making up the sport appearance option or the Hurst and that chrome wheels were not standard. haha

You can take nething off the car you want to. Its still YOUR car until they cut you a check. All you gotta do is replace it with something stock.

My insurance company let me take a bunch of stuff off my T/A without buying it back from them. When they got it, it was sitting on four spares. The 3 I bought from junkyards didn't fit around the calipers right, so I was only able to get 1.5 lugnuts on each one. Needless to say, it didn't roll very easily.

1. They don't HAVE to find you like vehicle, depends on what your coverages are on your policy.
2. you might THINK they are low balling, they take the AVERAGE vaule of the SAME car in your area.
3. What you OWE on the vehicle makes no difference to the settlement totalled value.
4. Bolt-on's don't count.
5. "Mint condition" doesn't count, only mileage
6. any previous work/repairs don't count either.

Don't forgert as well, depends on insurnace company/adjuster.

This is true...until title is handed over, or you sign something.
