05+ Vettes are only offered in 3 versions that I know of which are the standard C6 version and the upgraded Z51 which has a suspension and tranny package and then of course the Z06 model.
I'm almost 100% sure there weren't any new C5's made in 05 only 04, but
I think the options were pretty much the same for the older C5 versions.
Build a car on www.chevrolet.com to see your different options.

So the vettes that came with the Lt1 are C4's....
If you want my advice I would by a base model C6 and Mod it. The Z06 is nice and fast and if you got the money to waste, get one. But if you want a fast car and not spend too much money my advice is get a base model C6 and mod it. Modded you'll spend less money than the base sticker of a Z06 and be faster. Now an equally modded Z06 will hand you your *** but the chances of actually seeing one on the streets is pretty slim...
Personally if I was looking for a LS2 right now I'd probably get a GTO just because I'm not a vette kinda guy

base model c6, z51 , z06
does this sound right?

"C5" means Corvette 5th generation (1997-2004)
"C6" means Corvette 6th generation (2005-present)
The base model is just a "Corvette"
Z51 is an options package (better 6-spd manual, brakes, oil/steering/tranny coolers, swaybars, tires, etc...) It is a performance/braking/handling package.
Then there is the Z06

And let's not forget the other suspension option, F55, which is magnetic ride control...sport to tour in the base Corvette. In '07 the F55 package got the upgraded brakes from the Z51 pacakge too.
In 2005, all auto Vettes were A4s (4L65E), and starting 2006, all autos are A6s (with option of paddle shift on the wheel), and the A6 was an extra $1200 or so (A4 was a freebie option in 2005). A6s are just now getting aftermarket parts (still not many) like shift kits and TCs.
If you buy used and with a painted top instead of a transparent top, make sure you ask if the top recall (delamination) has been done. They had a nasty habit of separating from the frame and becoming flying composite shards of death on the road. Not necessarily a big deal, but GM is backed up getting them done, and people are waiting 2 months or more to get a new top.
If you buy a really early '05 model (pre 11500 VIN or so), ask about the crank pulley bolt recall, which on the first few LS2s could back out and throw the crank pulley/belt, resulting in nasty damage if not caught.
Those are major things to check in the used market. Not trying to scare you from the Vette, never had a problem in 20K miles on my '05.
You may hear 1LT, 2LT and 3LT too, which are option packages (interior). 1LT is base (electric everything, but no HUD, no power pass seat). 2LT has HUD, power both seats, 6 disc changer in dash. 3LT has single disc and navigation. These are all for 2006 and later. In 2005, the packages were 1SX (basically same as 1LT), 1SA, which is just like 1LT but with both power seats, and 1SB, which is same as 2LT and 3LT, but you chose if you wanted nav or not.
That's fairly general, but should get you on the road for the search!

great info guys...realy helps
1stz06- yeah i get that a lot lol im just very attracted to the new body style for the vette. i think with this vehicle i might not worry so much about power as it is a 400 hp stock car...which is realy more then i need lol having power is awesome, but the first mods i have planned is the custom airbrushing , tint, and rims and custom interior much like my current ride. im going to try and create another showcar...maybe new exhaust and modify the intake or something...nothing to crazy with the engine. im gonna try and limit myself from "warrenty-breaking" mods.
~~~of course thats what i say now...until someone shows me up lol
real fire = fad. Soon to be an old fad, just like splash paint jobs, heartbeat pinstripes, shattered glass jobs, fade jobs, etc...
They were more unique when only a few people had them. If you want flames, do a classic style flame job and put real flames inside the classic flames. That would be different.
honestly...i think the true real looking fire is played out...to be honest the only blue fire i have seen is on my car and a few choppers in mags. if anything the old classic hotrod flames are more seen then true fire on vehicles, simply because they are easier and less expensive. so i think the blue fire is the way to go...i cant describe the success i have had with my cars theme. on a vette, i think, it will be even better. im gonna do just like the pic not the entire front end cuz i agree that would be to much. once again i respect your opinion...
