Dumb question from a guy who lives in BFE and nothing ever gets stolen even if it's unlocked and the key in it. Are they using a wrecker or have they started packing vats delted pcms and smashing the columns. In the last two years I've been here I have never seen as many stolen car posts as we have had lately.

not hard to do at all. the person doing it probably has a freind in gm parts. just takes them the #vin/s to the car they want .and gets the ignition keys cut. ive always kept a business card over my vin# for that reason.

Well I knew about doing that I just did not figure it would be so easy any more. Even from a shop perspective on our part and we do alot of business w gm they are getting very picky and lots of information b4 we can get keys cut and lock cylinders keyed etc. A few years ago it was not an issue at all anyone could walk in a get a key cut. They are very tight with their records but if ya got friends it bypasses everything else. Uppity up again

I always kept my VIN covered, just for that reason. Its been covered for over 2 years now. Guess that doesnt help anymore. I am curious if GM keeps a log of any one that has asked for cut keys. I went and talked to a dealership today and they said they cannot get the # for they chip in the key unless they call GM and get some kind of code. Not sure if that is true or not, but I am going to call them tomorrow to check it out.
Thanks guys for all the support it means alot, especially when your life's ambition has been stripped from you....

Does nobody have LO-JACK? Quick story, I had a soldier who was broke and had no money to by tires on his 01 T/A. So i took a spare and took it in the middle of the night. I bought him some really nice used sz-50's 275/40/17's and i had to leave town and couldn't get it done for a day. Any way within 2 hrs from the time he reported it stolen, DPS had it in there mitts. They tracked it down at my bros' girlfriends garage, and had an army of cops out there. So i would invest in LO Jack. I had to explain and they dropped the issue.
I hope you get it back, and not stripped

Damn, I wonder how they jacked your car if you covered the VIN... son of a bitch. Also, I didn't know it was illegal to cover the VIN, but it doesn't surprise me now that I know. Maybe a business card is the best way to do it, as you could just pretend it slid down there by accident or something. Electrical tape would be hard to explain.
