Default Great vacation

http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y25.../Banff%202006/

The wife unit and I got back yesterday from our second honeymoon in Banff Springs, Alberta, Canada. If any of you ever get a chance to go, I highly recommend it. Banff is more of a summer resort, but as you can see from the pictures in the link above (and, yes, I suck at taking pictures), it is really beautiful in the fall/winter months as well. The best thing about going during this time of year is it's their off-season, so hotels are a little cheaper (we stayed at the Fairmont, which is NEVER cheap), and there aren't any crowds for anything.

We had a great time, and look forward to saving up to go back in another five years.

Houston gets 10 months of warm weather every year, so we wanted to go some place cold. We wanted to avoid big crowds and over-commercialized areas. That pretty much ruled out anything in the US. Banff is definitely a tourist trap, but it's in the middle of a national park, so there isn't a billboard every 10 feet, and everyone is on their best behavior. The big allure of Banff (for us) is that they have done a good job of making it comfortable, but still coexisting with nature.

Great choice. One of the best places I've ever been. The town of Banff has a great atmosphere and skiing just outside is amazing. Stayed at the Rimrock the first trip, and Fairmont the second. Anxiously awaiting the 3rd....

Very nice.... Is that Jasper National Park by chance? My friends went there in the summer and its even more beautiful!!! We should conquer Canada and use it for our national playground.
