Just found out my Transmission isnt a Tremec
Well, working on getting the new clutch in. Not the first time I had the trans out, but the first time that I ever paid any attention to it.
Turns out that my transmission isnt a Tremec, its a Borg Warner. Makes some sense. When I bought the car, I went through a few slave cylinders. Turns out that the input shaft on the transmission was from a LT1. It honestly never even clicked that the transmission wasnt a Tremec.
Guess the previous owner toasted his transmission and went scrap yard hunting and pulled it out of an older car.
Not that big of a deal, just a little suprising and figured I'd share.

I could be getting incorrect information from my friends. I'm sure I'll find out quickly one way or another.

Maybe they'll see this thread and shed some light on it.
I'm confused now. I know that the transmission came out of a LT1 car, I found that out when I had to replace the input shaft on it.

My ls1 had a B&W and so have other peoples. It's really not that big of a deal.

I went through 4 slave cylinders because of a fubared input shaft. I still have pics of it sitting next to a LS1 input shaft and it was about an inch shorter. Amber even tooks pics of it when I took it up to them.
Also, the transmission has junk yard markings on the top of it.
I cant see somebody putting a LT1 input shaft in a LS1 transmission. I can see somebody getting low on cash and buying a transmission out of a LT1 from a junk yard to get the car back on the road.

Yea, with the whole story together it def. came from a LT1. The tranny should hold up better then all the T56's you see shitting out on people constantly.

What kind of face plate did you have - LS1 or LT1? LT1 used a pivot arm and separate throwout bearing, LS1 has the hydraulics and integrated throwout bearing. The face plates are completely different. That must have been changed?
As for the 'differences', there are a few minor differences, but nothing that will make a LT1 tranny "stronger" than an LS1. I've seen busted up versions of both.
And my '98 had Borg Warner stamped on the side of it, but internally was identical to later Tremecs that I've taken apart.

From: http://www.moderndriveline.com/Techn...t5_history.htm
"About 1998, Tremec bought the T5 product line from Borg Warner and have produced the T5 used ever since. Note that the transmission is the same although the case stamp will say Tremec or Borg Warner depending on who manufactured it."

I was talking to Crager last night, and he was saying that the bellhousing would be different from the LS to the LT. But the transmission bolts to the bellhousing fine and the bellhousing bolts to the car fine, but the transmission actually looks a little different than the newer T56's.
Here's some pics of the input shaft that came out of it.

I just cant see somebody putting an input shaft from a LT1 car in this transmission, I'm honestly confused now though.
