Problem with alarm
Hey guys, I'm hopinh someone could help me. I did a search but didn't hit on anything.
Starting yesterday, when I lock my car either from the inside or with the key fob, it will honk twice at random times, and then sometimes the alarm will be set off as if the panic button were triggered. I have done nothing differently to the car and this is driving me and my neighbors crazy! I'd rip the whole thing out but I need my alarm to work properly, has this happened to anyone before?

Don't quite know what may have caused it but it may be the sensitivity level on the shock detector in you spare tire compartment. You can adjust that and see if it helps.

Hey Complicated, I'll take formula's advice and check the detector, if I can't come up with anything I'll let ya know. If you've got some spare time this week you can take a look at it, even if you don't find anything it'll be good for a couple beers.

Sounds like it could be a bad pin switch on the doors or hatch. If you close the door w/o setting the alarm, how long does it take for the int. lights to go out ? If the switch is bad, it may think that the doors open randomly, setting off the alarm.
It could also be a bad/old shock sensor. It actually does have the ability (at least my '00 does) to "chirp" or only sound the horn twice if the car is hit lightly. So it could be too sensitive and just going off for anything. The sensitivity may be the easiest thing to mess with.
Hope this helps.
