How many miles can you typically get out of these things? I found a '95 with 200K miles for only $1500. Would it be very expensive to rebuilt the engine for these things, too?
Haha. My Dad just told me they're junk. I guess nevermind?

is it a V8 or an I6? the 318cuin V8 has been around forever. i had a 93 grand cherokee V8 and had very good luck with the engine. i'd always be weary of buying something with 200k on it, no matter the make or model. even if the engine is doing ok, just imagine all the other stuff that is on its deathbed.

My 94 Grand Cherokee with the I6 (those things are bullet proof) runs like a champ. Of course when all things reach 125k, you gotta start replacing things. Put a rebuilt transmission (with a new tranny oil cooler) in it about a year and a half ago, did a tune up (plugs, wires, cap/rotor) less than 2500 miles ago and am in the process of changing the water pump and harmonic balancer. After that, I will be looking to sell it... interested?

I'd pass. I got my 95 Cherokee I6 for $1200 but I knew I had to replace the radiator. Did some other stuff as well as lifted it. It had 101K on it. Once the engines have 200K they will probably be on borrowed time and be using oil. Parts are cheap though.

Mine has about 130k on it, and burns -0- oil.

I had a 2000 Grand Cherokee. I was disappointed with it and traded it in w/ only 40k miles. I know its not a mid 90's, but I did know someone who had like a '93 grand cherokee and he had alot of problems. For what its worth, I'll never own another one..

My buddy had a '90-something, that he bought for cheap with a cracked head. It wasn't the hardest thing to repair, but even after we fixed the head, we still had nothing but trouble from it - oil pump quit, then the exhaust manifold cracked, ect. My cousin also had one that the transfer case would keep going out (I believe that was a couple grand in lessons learned before he finally sold it). Working in parts I noticed that Jeeps are a pain to get correct parts for because a '95 may have installed parts ranging from '94 specific stuff to '96 specific stuff. You couldn't give me a Jeep, but that's JMHO.

Considering the miles on it, it hasnt had too many problems, as far as expensive stuff goes. Had a brake caliper go bad, cost me $20 for a newly rebuilt unit. Had a distributor go bad, bearing that holds the shaft in the center wore out and the shaft was bouncing around side to side. Cost about $50. Ive had to replace. And of course the exhaust manifold was cracked, and i think my flexplate is cracked too.
So while the little stuff is wearing out, the motor and transmission are rock solid for me. Of course mine is a regular cherokee and not a Grand Cherokee, so i cant really speak for those.

My friend had a 97 with the V8, after it hit 100K miles that thing literally started falling apart. He traded it on a 03 M3 a few months ago. Other friends, LS1X2's wife had one, that thing started having a ton of problems as well so they traded it in. My boss has a 03 or 04, things a peace of ****, already had the trans replaced twice, brakes have been replaced nothing but problems from it, he has a extended warranty on it so its more of an inconvenience when it breaks, which is very often. He drives that thing easy and its nothing but dealer maintained religiously. Not impressed at all with Jeep build quality or therefore a huge lack of
