hood insulation... who uses it>\?
I still have mine under my hood , but i have a friend that took his off his lt1 car because he said it runs cooler without it. Anyone else run theirs with out hood insulation? I doubt i'll try it because i'm trying to keep the factory appearance even though i have the stage 3 heads and etc .my temp stays decent , but i was just asking since he was making it seem like like it was a performance mod . if it is cool it would be the cheapest on i've seen on a f-body

meh....I'm sure it would let heat energy through the hood easier, but is that a good thing? Sure the engine compartment ambient temperature might be a few degrees cooler, but is that good for the paint? I don't know, but something worth asking.
I think the only legitimately believable reason to pull it is for appearance.

Leave it on--the purpose of it is safety related. In the tragic event of a fire the insulation acts as a blanket.
I'm curious how he came to his conclusion that his ride runs cooler? I routinely saw an IAT/ambient delta of <7º> according to my Scanmaster. IOW, the tempture of the air going into the engine was nearly the same as the tempature of the outside air. Now, when in traffic and idling those IATs would jump up quite a bit. I don't see anyway around high at-idle IATs unless you can mount a shop fan to the front of your car .
