Default Need help finding an experienced Z06 mechanic in Dallas/Plano, Texas

Hello everyone. First post here. This site was recommended to me by a member of Corvetteforum. Thought maybe someone here could help me with my situation.

I recently purchased a 2001 Z06 from a forum member in Boston MA. Drove it cross country to Texas. Drove like a champ. The car has The Cartek Stage 2 head/cam package installed with other nice upgrades which correlate to about 514 HP. Problem is the car recently died on me during a short road trip. Took it to my mechanic (more of an electrical specialist). And he's currently doing a diagnostic on the vehicle. The check engine light came on, seemed to not get any gas to the engine, and shortly thereafter the car just died on me. Engine turns on but quickly dies as it seems to not be able to get any gas.

So now to my request. If the problem is internal to the engine, I'd like to take it to an experienced and trusted local mechanic with extensive experience working on Z06's. Can anyone here provide or recommend someone in the Dallas/Plano area that would be able to do dependable, quality work on the car engine if needed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What Codes...?

That will start you in the right direction.

Biggest problem people I have come to know is that with a highly modified car you cant take it to your average shop around the corner.

I have a few friends that would have me drive 4 hours to work on there car.

Post up the codes. Lots of good people on here.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll post the codes tomorrow when i get them from my mechanic. But in a nutshell, he said the codes were showing misfires on cylinders #3 and #7. He also said he was hearing some "abnormal" noise coming from inside the left head and the car was idling rough. I took a 2000 mile road trip when i bought her and she drove like a champ . . . smooth idle at 900 rpm, no issues.

From what I hear, there are quite a few possible culprits for the misfires. From the fuel pump to the ignition wires, spark plug wires, etc. Once i got back into Texas, I had the oil changed and then not 30 minutes later the check engine light came on on the drive home. Flickering on and off, not a constant on. The next day, she dies on me.

I'm no mechanic so I need to find a good local guy (or within a 100 mile radius) That can work on the modified engine if required. I'm hoping it's something simple. But I really want the right person working on it. Even my mechanic was recommending I find someone with more experience working on modified engines. So any help finding some in Dallas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Jonathan @ RPM knows his vettes inside an out. Mostly what he works on. Give them a call, they are located in Lewisville.

One of the many things that can cause what you are describing is the MAF. Clean it and see if it helps. STAY AWAY FROM RPM! Their knowledge is average at best. At least it was with my experience there.

Another vote for LG. Vettes are about 95% of their business.

Check engine Codes are P0303 and P0307

I'm hearing a lot about LG from other corvette owners. I'll see what my guy can come up with and hope he finds a easy fix. If not, then I'll look at LG. The help is greatly appreciated.

I have the same thing going on in my CTS-V! So far I have changed the fuel filter/air filter/ MAF and still does it. Mine is alway worse right after a fill up. Do you think that would be a fuel pump? My will clear up and only does it every now and then. Oh and every time it does it my turn on headlamps come on. Wierd!

Ditto... stay away from RPM in Lewisville.

Take your car to LGM they will diagnose/fix the problem right the first time.

Good luck.
