I sold my Camaro and I'm looking at getting a truck. I was namely looking into the '04-'07 Silverado/Sierra and the '05-up F150's. I'm pretty sure I left out the first production year for these models. I've heard that the previous model to the current Dodge Ram's are something I want to avoid, any truth to this?
I'm not sure if I want to get a regular cab, extended or quad/supercrew/whatever 4 door. I'm leaning towards the 4 door variants because I like the way they look. This will just be a daily driver, no major hauling or anything that I can foresee.
Any help is appreciated!

Its all personal preference. I owned a previous Dodge truck that was a POS and I currently own a Jeep Wrangler that literally requires repairs weekly. But then there are plenty of guys who have had smooth operation from their DC vehicles. I like GM best myself. IMO the front end on the 04-07 Rado is ugly, I'd go with the Sierra. A close second would be the Ford. The current F150s are nice trucks in and out, I don't care for their engines though.
Unless you never carry gear and people, reg cab is probably out.
Are you wanting a V6 or V8? Auto or manual? Truck with options or bare bones? Maybe that will help narrow it down?

I've had no problems out of my '05 Ram with the Hemi. I like the pre-06 interiors more than the newer ones. But the 4-door Rams are basically an extended cab with a bigger door unless you get a megacab. PLENTY of room in those. I haven't driven a new Chevy or Ford though. If I had it to do over again I'd get a 4-door Silverado 1/2 ton. 5.3/auto.

My '01 Silverado HD Crewcab has 120K on the clock and is rocking and rolling. No significant problems to speak of, just the annoying steering column bearing rattle that is very common. In the spirit of full disclosure, the previous owner had to replace the ABS module, but in the 18 months I have owned the truck all I've had to do is change the oil and filter and replace a tail light bulb. It does have piston slap on cold start up, but again, that's pretty much normal on these and not really a problem per se.
We love the truck and it really comes in handy when I need to transport a group of people. Friends don't make friends ride in the back seat of F-bodies. And of course, it tows my '94 Z28 on an open trailer like it's not even back there.

i like the new f150's my dad has one and it really handles alot better than a big truck should, it really suprised me the first time i drove it. the interior and dash lights (green) are really ugly in my opinion. i like the 04 ram quad cabs with the hemi, 4 full size doors and windows that roll down are what gets me i love cruisin
next time you have a day off you could go down to car max and test drive one of each of them to see which one you like better. im not saying buy one from carmax just test drive

Of all of them, I'd go with the GM. I love my '01 2500HD in spite of the fact that you can't get a 4wd truck with less options. The new F150's ride isn't too bad, but they're heavy and the interior looks nice but isn't comfortable. The only reason I'd buy a Dodge is for the Cummins, otherwise the super-cheap feel of the rest of the truck is just too cheap for me (and again, that's coming from someone with a base work-truck no-options stripped-down beat-up Silverado). I will say that the '03-'05 Silverado front ends are ugly, so look for an '06-'07 Classic with the nice front end .
Or pick up Tony's truck, that thing looks nice .

hmmm, I've had all of the big three brands. I'd say the Fords feel the tightest chassis-wise, but their seats aren't very comfortable and the engines are weaksauce. The Dodge is a good bang for the buck, but it has a cheap interior and doesn't ride nearly as good as a GM or Ford. The GM has the most comfortable seats, decent interior, and the best gas engines. But, GM trucks also cost more, but they also have the best resale value too.

The '05 CTD I drove was almost brand new and felt like cheap crap to me. Interior pieces rattled like crazy, the seats were beyond uncomfortable, and the interior plastics were crazy cheap. Like I said, it felt too cheap to me, especially for a $39K truck . Hopefully yours isn't like that, otherwise I couldn't see how DC could possibly still exist putting out products like that. Then again that diesel was intoxicating . . .

This is a picture of my "cheap" interior. 27k miles and not one rattle or squeak.

none of my Dodges (04, 06, 06) rattled or squeaked. The materials inside are very cheap looking, but they worked okay for a truck. Of course, none of mine had over 40K miles on them either, no telling what they are like at 100K.
Best interiors right now are the '07 LTZ upgraded GM trucks. Very similar to my Escalade.

Really depends on what your looking for out of the truck.
My take and this just my 2 cents.
GM trucks have a great truck. The gas mileage is the best out of the bunch, power is good, although the new trucks have restrictions thru the ECM that hold them back quite a bit. The interiors are super nice, hopefully they hold up better than the 99-07 classics though, they were notorious for squeaks and rattles after a while. GM also seems to have the biggest aftermarket at least as far as performance because of the shared architecture with the LSX engine.
Fords, while I've never driven owned one, seems to have a very tight chassis, and very well built. The interiors are extremely nice, although the seats are not quite as comfortable. The engines seem to be lacking power IMO and fuel economy is not very good. They are a good strong truck and have a very good towing capacity. They ride very well.
Dodge, I've always been a Dodge fan myself, had several in the past. I personally love their look, but its either a love/hate type thing. I'd be driving one now, IF they got better gas mileage. I just simply drive TOO many miles daily to own one. They have a pretty stiff ride, more trucklike than the GM's, but they are durable as heck. The interiors are nice, and the ones I've had were squeak and rattle free. The dodges too are usually more affordable than the others
Then of couse there is also the Toyota and Nissan.
I don't know much about the Tundra, but will say to me they are butt ugly, the 5.7 liter V8 seems like a monster though.
The Nissan Titan, I have always liked. I came close to buying one, drove excellent, rode good and tight like the fords, the engine is plenty powerful and sounds nice, aftermarket performance is not very deep, interiors are decent, but the price of these are fairly affordable too. My only drawback from the nissan is the horrible gas mileage. And its got that love it or hate it looks.
