Default just breaks all 4 $99 wtf??

so I tell my girl I'll do her brakes its a 2005 neon, heard their advertisement so I figure I'm feeling lazy so I'll take it there right $99 all four, at auto zone I'll spent like $70 for the pads .
so I go and to make it short they tell me its gonna be $380 because there is a leak they show me the spot and it looks like they just let some oil run on top I'm like f*** that I'll do it my self .
and yea no leak ........no oil on the wheels or any place but the spot he showed me
I feel sorry for the lady that was in the waiting room with me they told her the same thing I told her to let her husband or son look at it firs and shes like I don't have any one and I already signed for them to work on it . I bet nothing was wrong with her brakes , well maybe just new pads

mind you I live 50 miles from the nearest JUST BRAKES

**** that...even I had already signed for them to work on it. I would have backed out. Thats how shops like that do it. When I had my lifted 4runner. I went to some place that had some free break/suspension check. wow. they dicked with my car for a good 2 hrs and when I came back. they had an insanely huge list of **** that was wrong with it... that actually wasnt wrong. and some how when I came back, my panhard bar was still attached, but one of the bolts was almost all the way out, wtf?

by the way.. what did they say was leaking?

You should have known better considering the pads alone were $70. How good of stuff could you be getting for $99?

I saw a Dateline a few years back exposing mechanics' shady practices. Just Brakes was their key focus. It sounds like they are still up to the same stuff.

I would NEVER take my car to one of these brake specialty shops. Ive heard so many stories.... From telling people that ALL their **** is bad (on newish late model vehicles) and will need to be replaced for $1500+, and when the person wants to leave, they tell them they cant let them leave with the car in that condition or they would be legally liable (bullshit), to the mechanics (if you want to call them that) actually damaging parts themselves.

They probably work on commission, so anything the mechanic (or "parts installers") can fool you into paying for is money in their pocket.

This kind of **** is one of the biggest reasons I do all my own work. That and Im too cheap to pay someone else to do it.

so they were going to add$300 for that? It was leaking on my 4runner(that free break check pointed that out, but it actaully was leaking). IIRC the brake cylinder costs me $~12 and the work wasnt bad at all... Def not worth even $50 for me to pay someone else to do it.

yall should know better then to go to shops like that, if its too good to be true, its probly not true lol, thats how alot of automotive shops make their money, alot of auto shops do this, thats why its best to have a trusted mechanic for big jobs you cant do in your garage. I have mine and they are great in sugarland/stafford (uncles shop), or yall can just take it to an F-body specialist shop

most shops are that way, there are a few places you can trust. when you have service writers working on commission they do what it takes to line their pockets.
