02 sensor in bank 2 setting off check engine light.
My check engine light came on. I took it to the mechanic and he said the cat was reading low efficiency, but he said most likely a bad 02 sensor in bank 2 was causing it. We replaced the downstream 02 sensor with an AC Delco 02 sensor. The light turned off for a while but now it came back on. I took it back in and it read the same thing. He said i dont need the cat, but if i wanted to replace it he would.
Has anyone had this problem?
There is two 02 sensors in bank 2 correct? Would the one after the cat cause this code to go off? I'm not mechanically smart, but if an 02 sensor was causing a code to go off for the cat, it seems to me it should be the one by the manifold and not the not the on after the cat. Does this sound correct? Should i replaced the 02 sensor or just replace the cat?

I had my bank 1 02 sensor go out 2 weeks ago. i went ahead and checked both out and they both needed to be replaced. i doubt you need to replace your cat. ive also had bad 02's from getting bad gas from the pump. i replaced my 02's and reset the computer and its all good for me. just my .02

That's what i would recommend. I was in your same position. i would just go ahead and spend the extra on 2 new ac delco's and reset it. thats what i did and i havnt had a problem since. but its up to you man i hope you get it worked out

Some of these sensors are at least 5 years old. You should replace your 02's at least every couple of years.
There are 2 sensors on each bank. Bank 1 sensor 1 is the drivers side front sensor. Bank 1 sensor 2 is the rear sensor behind your cat. The same goes for bank 2. I use the Delco sensors. The bosch and others tend to go out quicker.

the front o2 sensors read air/fuel mixtures to control fuel. the rear o2 sensors are used to read catalyst efficiency. if it is still the same sensor setting a code for "catalyst low efficiency" then you would most likely need the cat replaced. hope this helps.

Have you checked the pcv system out..... PLEASE check the rubber y fitting you cant see behind the intake....if it is broken( AND THEY ALL DO ) it can cause the O2s to read way off....

SO I'm going to check the pcv system, but if that doesnt fix it, should i go ahead and change my front bank two 02 sensor OR should i just get it over with and change the cat?
Does anyone know the part number for the front bank two sensor? I'll be getting AC Delco if that makes a difference...
Oh yeah if i have to change the pcv system component, where do i get it?

General rule reads that BANK 1 is the side where cylinder number 1 is located, in our cars driver side. BANK 2 is the side opposite to cylinder number 1, in our cars passenger side.
BANK 1, SENSOR 1 =Upstream sensor, Driver Side
BANK 1, SENSOR 2 =Downstream sensor, Driver Side(after cat)
BANK 2, SENSOR 1 =Upstream sensor, Passenger Side
BANK 2, SENSOR 2 =Downstream sensor, Passenger Side(after cat)

BANK 1, SENSOR 2 =Downstream sensor, Driver Side(after cat)
BANK 2, SENSOR 1 =Upstream sensor, Passenger Side
BANK 2, SENSOR 2 =Downstream sensor, Passenger Side(after cat)

I may be wrong but I believe bank 1 to be the drivers side, and bank 2 to be the passengers side as mentioned, but I think sensor 2 relates to the one b4 the cat, and sensor 1 relates to the one after the cat, but it's been awhile.
