riding a motorcycle in houston? smart?
well with the way gas prices are i was thinking of maybe getting a 650 cbr or GSX-R, something that gets 50+ mpg... but when i think about it houston drivers suck *** and i don't know how safe it really is to drive here, soon i'll be commuting about 70 miles a day and a gallon of gas for that sounds good to me, compared to half a tank. who else rides and how do you feel about it?

well see i'll have to go 45 to get to SAM (school) and it's 30 miles there from where i'm at so 60 both ways. work from my house i'm not concerned about, it's the dumbasses on 45 i'm worried about, especially in the morning rush hour

have you ever driven or have motorcycle experience? i say pick up a used 750 cc bike and see how you like the experience . i can remember being set on buying a bike to drive around. then a buddy threw me the keys to his 1300 cc hayabusa. drove it a few days and said **** this too many dumbfucks on the road even when you watch your every angle.

I drove mine for 60 miles a day on the South Belt from the west side of town to the east side of town.
I wouldn't recommend the inner Houston area though. According to AAA, the average life expectancy of a biker in the Houston area who commutes 5 days out of the week is 4 years.

I use mine to commute from the Cypress area to Pearland on nice days. Sometimes as frequent as 3-4 days a week. I ride the HOV lane when possible, and I just watch all that I can. I have an 07 GSXR 750.
edit: ALWAYS wear a helmet, gloves and armor jacket! I'll never ride mine without them. Definitely a necessity in Houston. If you go down, you may get hurt, but your chances of survival are much greater!!!

650 CBR?
Drove to work about 70% of the time on the bike nearly last 6 years. Its about 76 miles roundtrip. Definately, had many close calls. Cars dont see you or dont look out for bikes.

my mom had always said wait tell i live somewhere safe to drive one, and this is when i lived in the FL keys. if she saw what the drivers were like here compared to the sane ones in the keys i think she would die if i got one lol.
