I'm not sure if this will help but here's what I did for a friends install, I bought a 6" long grade 8 bolt, it was slightly larger then the I.D. of the bearing. I machined about three inches of the bolt to the I.D of the bearing, if you can't have it machined then slowly use a grinder and file to get a nice fit ( not tight to where it won't slide nicely ). Once I had a nice fit I polished it out. We then packed the inside of the bearing hole with heavy wheel bearing grease, use a heavy hammer and drive the grease back into the bearing opening. As the grease pushes back the bearing will come forward, add grease as the bearing comes out. Here's a picture of the tool/bearing.

Al
P.S. You might want to spray WD-40 or P.B Blaster around the bearing to help ease it out.

The factory service manual, and many posts on this site warn against that method because there is a plug in the back of the crankshaft. It can be forced out by the pressure.

I will not risk it.

Yep, do NOT do the force-out via pressure. BAD BAD BAD!

This one is supposed to work good on the type of bearing used on these cars.

What kind of plug, I've never heard you couldn't use the the method we used.

Here's what my G.M. Service Manual says to do when removing the pilot bearing.

Pilot Bearing Replacement.

Tools required, J23907 Slide Hammer with Bearing Adapter

Remove Procedure
1. Remove the clutch.
2. Using the J23907, remove the clutch bearing.

That's it, nothing about a plug or not to use grease to force the bearing out.
