220 ext cord?
I have 220 in the basement. DOnt plan on staying at the house forever. SO I dont want to run it out to the garage. Can I have an extention cord made? I'd like to do a little welding. Thanks.

you can, but you will need some heavyduty cable, depending on your welder.
I have a 8/3 conductor 100' cord for my arc welder, that will work fine for like 80 amps or so. To do serious welding, you will need to get a 6/3 or 4/3 cord.
How far do you need to go,and what kind of welder are you using?

I used about 50' of 6/3 to run from my stove plug to the garage for my TIG, works great. Did a better jobs than the wussy 40 amp breaker it's connected to
just get some wire, the right plug for one end, and a plastic junction box and outlet for the other end. Nothin' to it

Remember that an extension cord will add resistance and draw more amperage and require a bigger breaker. The additional amperage could also cause the power lead that came with the welder to overheat as it was designed/rated for a specific amout of amperage.
It's always best to extend the leads whenever possible. If you do use an extension cord get a good quality 8/3 cord like mentioned above and be aware of the possible issues when your welding.. Don't crank up your welder and forget about the extension cable laying across your house.. could be a fire hazard..
