Default how to rear tires on ramps and jack up front?

I want to get under my car by putting the rear wheels on ramps then jacking up the front end from the middle, then put jackstands under the front too. Is it safe to the car to jack it up from the middle of that front crossmember? If somebody could post a pic of an f-body jacked up that way that would be great! Thanks.
Jay

I put my front tires on ramps then jack up the back under the rear end. Put jack stands under the axle then jack up the front more and put jack stands where the lower a-arms meet the K member. Don't user cheap little jack stands. Sam's Club has some nice jack satnds for about $20.

I saw this guy who owned a Vette build his reverse lift inside a standard garage. He dug a long whole about 3 feet high under the car. He used thin cinder blocks and cement to finish the sides and floor.

He says it is a snap to change an engine or tranny or rear....

I think the concept came from those JiffyBoob places where the guys work in pits under the cars...

The problem with using the ramps in the rear is there's not much room for the floorjack handle to move, I'd go with the ramps in the front then use the floorjack under the pumpkin. Unfortunately I no longer have a pic of where to place the safety jackstands under the rear axle but I'll explain it the best I can, place the safety jackstands under the brackets that hold the rear swaybar to the axle housing.

I have a good floor jack and had it positioned from under the passenger door, handle pointing rearward with the rears on the ramps and plenty of handle movement because good jack. Just wsan't sure if it's safe to jack from the middle of the front crossmember so I didn't go through with it. I'll try the fronts on ramps though and jack the back up. Hopefully that's high enough so I can add my one pair of jackstands to the jack end, should be safe enough if it's high enough. I don't use a creeper anyway, just a piece of cardboard so I have a little extra clearance. Thanks for all the help.

I guess you can do it that way, the front K-member is strong enough but just be carefull of the oil pan.

Thanks a bunch Dark Age, that's exactly what I was hoping to see. That's where I had it. Ah see I learned where the k-member is, nice.

Just lay down a peice of a 2x4 to drive up on on all 4 corners (hell even just one corner) and you should be fine. If your car is really low lay a long 2x4 down then a small one on top of it to get more lift.

I do have ramps jackstands and jacks so I'll use those. Just wanted to make sure I didn't jack it from somewhere that would break it. In a fix away from home that's a good Idea though.

This is showing my age but the pit preceeded the lift.

Yeah, my grandfather bought a house over 60 years ago that had a pit in the workshop for oil changes.
