I just recently purchased a 1/2" dewalt 14.4V Rated @ 145FT# this baby rocks, it is super small too... Its smaller faster and alot more powerful than my 14.4 drill. look into it before you buy the huge snap on one, the dewalt is very compact.

Several points. Why can't you have a compressor in your driveway. Oil-less compressors are the ones that make a lot of noise. You can get a small one that is fairly quiet. In addition to the cordless impact wrenches Sears sells an 110v electrical one that is fairly strong for about $100 or so. There are also 12v ones but these are more of the type that are used to change a tire once a year. As for 245lbs torgue, that is nothing. You will find that you will have to break a lot of things loose with a breaker bar before you can use that impact wrench. I have one ½-in drive, air impact wrench that is double hammers and rated at 650 lbs torque. This is the one I use for just about everything, tire lugs, exhaust bolts, engine bolts etc. If I can't do it with a 3/8-in air ratchet then this is the one that gets used.

I have a Snap-on 18V 1/2 impact and this sucker will take any nut off anything. I use it all of the time, I've changed tires at the track, replaced my rear-end in the garage, all will just this impact (in regards to taking bolts and nuts off). No complaints here, I take it everywhere!

Snap On 14.4 volt here. I love it. It is more powerful then the dewalt, but the dewalt is a lot smaller with a bigger battery. Charge time on a snap on is 45 min.

The Corded ones from Sears work exceptionally well, but cordless is obviously more convenient for taking to the dragstrip and whatnot. I swear by Snap-On stuff, but I've heard the DeWalt cordless is pretty sweet and 40% cheaper.

I bought the big corded Craftsman from Sears. It's rated at 240ftlbs, but I found it dissappointing. I only torque my lug nuts to 95-100ft lbs, and it could not break them loose. Maybe I didn't keep it going long enough, but after several seconds, it wasn't showing any signs of progress.

I would think it would be worse with a cordless unit, but for you guys that use the cordless impact wrenches, do you have to break the lugs loose first?

I'm interested in trying the 18v Dewalt, but I'm not about to spend $400 on one if it can't even break loose lug nuts torqued to 100ft lbs.

Snap On CT3450 I think those things rock we used them at the race track all weekend long and they have no problems doing anything.. charge fast ,tons of torque.. For smaller impact the 18v DeWalt with the quick release chuck is awesome I use mine everyday deffently the coolest tool I have bought in awhile...

This is what I have, Craftsman 18v 1/2in cordless impact wrench:

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00926825000

It kicks *** all over tire/wheel changes at the track... I drive to the track on my radials, and swap out my slicks and skinnies there, then swap back to radials to go home. This thing makes those changes REAL quick and is well worth it for portability.

I was leery of buying a cordless impact until the snap on dealer handed me one of his 18v cordless impacts, put a socket on it and told me to pick a lug on his snap on truck and give it a try. I fugured there would be no way that thing would take a lug off of that big cargo truck, it worked like a charm. I did more than one lug thinking this might me a lucky pick and got a lug that was not on very tight. Since then I dont think I have used my air impact.

That's cool. I guess it's been about 1yr since I last looked at the prices. Actually the one on overstock.com seems like an awesome deal. No battery or case, but I already have the batteries.
