It's way overkill, it takes very little pressure to remove/install u-joints. Like said above I also use a small vice to replace u-joints.

No, like was said above you don't need it for u-joints. But once you have a press you will wonder how you got along without one, so buy one anyway

Just a small bench vice will work for sure and its real simple to do.

There are better designs available at HF which can be used for rear end work. I use a home vice for u-joints too.

A C-clamp and a socket just big enough for the end
cup to slide into, is the only thing I've ever used.

harbor frieght also has a ten ton a frame for less money than that. it was on sale last week for a lil more than $100
