Default OBD2 reader foreign + domestic

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive code reader that will handle both foreign (ISO-based BMW) OBD2 and domestic.

I have used PC-based software but I don't need lots of useless features and I prefer a stand-alone battery powered unit if possible.

Low cost is a major desire.

Thx..

i just purchased a autoxray EZ-link, refurbished for $175 shipped to me. It does OBD I & OBD II foreign and domestic cars. Its worked great for me so far. I think they are around 300-350 new.

You happen to remember where you got the refurbished version?

Harbor Freight has a small stand alone unit, works great. It reads and deletes OBDII codes. It was like $40, I've even seen them on sale there for $30. Good luck!

Exactly the one I got. I picked it up on sale for $30. Have never tried it on a foreign, but works great on domestic, especially considering the price relative to other makes.

I own the HF unit - sold for $40. It works great for domestic OBD2 cars. It does NOT work on German foreign cars that have ISO OBD2 systems.

I bought the $99 unit from JC Whitney. It works on domestic and foreign cars including those that have ISO OBD2 systems.

Is that unit you bought also compatible with the CAN format?

See the JC Whitney catalog for more details on the systems it will handle.
