Default Craftsman rant.

Broke 4 sockets doing a head swap this weekend & last. Broke my 6 point 5/16 socket taking the rocker studs off after breaking 2 8mm sockets. Now I go to 2 different Sears and they do not stock the 6 point 3/8 drive 5/16 socket. Not a big fan of sears & craftsman right now.

I broke my Matco 8mm 6-pt deep socket on a set of rocker arms. I grabbed my 12-pt craftsman 8mm and it broke the bolt loose without a problem. Craftsman are great backup tools.

I snapped one of them torquing it to 22 ftlbs. Luckly a friend got it out with his fingers.

Try to find a snap on truck when you need one LOL LOL ha ha. Sears is close and the tools are just what I need. Try using a impact socket on the tough ones.

I don't know how old your craftsman stuff is, but mine has taken a serious beatign on several projects, and I've never broke anything When I swapped teh heads on my car I must admit I used all Eastside's tools, but I dont' think there's any way I could ahve broken the actualy tools themselves... were you working outside in teh cold or something? I wonder if that makes the tools brittle or something.. I haven't done that, but I know that when I'm maxing out 3/4 tq wrench, with a reducer and a 1/2 inch socket and not breaking the socket... I can't imagine what it would take to actually break one.. I've worn some stuff out that I've used at jobs, but never actually had one break.

Odd.. not sure how you're doing it dave. I had to grind a socket to get it to do a task on my atv's back whenI used to race them.... and I never broke that one. We didn't use tq spec's on those.. we just cranked until we couldn't budge the bolt, because the vibration would send anything less strait off the bike in a hurry.

The only craftsman tool I ever broke was a 1/2" drive ratchet. I was helping a friend do a engine swap on his Honda (I was only in it for the free food) and we couldn't get the axle nut to budge, so we took a 6' long pipe, alid it over the ratchet, and took turns jumping on it. He couldn't make it move, so I tried (and I'm around 250 lbs) I jumped on it and the ratchet case shattered, along with pretty much everything inside. So all I had left was a handle with a jagged opening up top. I brought that, along with a ziplock of all the internals I could find back to sears and got a new one. The look on the clerks face was priceless!

Biggest thing that pisses me off, is every Sears I have been to (3) Does not have a 5/16 3/8 drive 6 point socket in stock. They all said they have to order it.
