Default Harbor Freight 1/2 ton engine stand enough?

Would this guy be enough for mild engine work on a SBC/LSx?

It'll be OK, but eventually the front of the motor will start to sag. I had one, never held anything but SBC's, and it got to sagging pretty good.

I have an AC Delco engine stand now, and though it also is made in China, it's a better unit - though a buddy gave it to me, so I don't know where to get another one (I've seen 'em online, but wouldn't want to pay shipping on something that heavy).

Yeah, some of the ones on ebay are just as much to ship as to buy.

I thought i've seen those AC Delco ones at O'reillys. I may be wrong but they have some there, I just don't remember what brand they are.

I have the same one... it's fine if you weld all the joints... in a lot of ways it's better then some of the other cheap stands out there, a lot of them have bolts going through both sides of a piece of square tubing so as you put weight on it the tubing crushes and the stand sags, and even those can be made OK if you weld all the joints and possibly add some minor bracing.

The only complaint I have about this stand is the "pin" they supply to position the stand. Pretty pathetic, but it does work. My 350 is resting nicely on it as we speak.

FWIW, my brother needed an engine stand to put a small block ford on (about as light as a v8 comes) and was going to grab the cheapest HF stand that he can grab and when we showed up the one in this thread was on sale for $39...
