Default Whats a good engine hoist/stand?

I'd need both of them for my new motor...what brand name should I be looking for? I already searched and found out that the pep-boys and Goodyear racing ones are crap. What else is there? Hows the harbor freight 2 ton hoist?

Where's the best place to look locally (store) for a hoist and stand...shipping is almost $100 on these items from harbor freight. Appreciate the help!

I have an AC Delco, I think it was purchased from O'Reillys but not sure.

Anyway, aside from good construction, look for a hoist that has a long reach. The nose on our cars is long. I borrowed one hoist from a buddy that I had to push hard against the nose of a 94Z to grab the motor - the boom barely reached. I don't like doing that. The AC Delco hoist that I have is long enough to comfortably reach my LT1 without touching the nose (using a Happy Hooker from TPIS) and pluck it right out.

The AC Delco hoist is made in China, but it has worked very well for me so far.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm gunna try and find an O'Reilly's out here...haven't seen one around yet, but I'm sure theres one close enough. The good year one at Sams club looked like it was built well, but someone in another thread said the wheels sucked and the jack failed prematurely...anyone else have experience with that hoist?

I bought mine from a local auto store...checkers auto parts......the boom could not reach the center of the motor without hitting the nose of the car. I got a longer steel square tube, had a machine shop drill some holes in it...It works well and is a stronger piece.

i dont know what your needs are but i like ones that have fold up legs or the legs coe off and have holders for them on the side. this way it can be stored in a small space.

I prefer a grantry system, not very compact but can lift just about anything with a 5 ton chain hoist. I did have a hoist similar to one Northern Tool sells, but had to rebuild it because a 454 was too much for it.

I have a 2-ton foldable from Harbor Freight. It works fine and has no problems holding up the whole drivetrain. It looks almost identical to the one cbrich mentioned above, except that it is around $200. As for an engine stand, don't have one of those yet.
