Floor jack for trans what do you guys use?
I need to pull the trans out of my 98 Camaro but im doing it with floor jacks and not a lift. Im used to using the nice telescoping trans jacks with a 2 post lift. Besides using a regular floor jack and trying to balance it what have you guys tried? I found a trans specific floor jack from sears but it was $500. I was thinking about using a ATV/motorcycle jack since you can get them for like $75-$100.

There's your boy right there.
I see it on sale frequently for $49.99 - it can be on sale at your local HF, while online it's still regular price. If it goes on sale online, print it out and take in the ad, and I think the store will match it.

Trans jack, wow fancy I usually just balance it on a floor jack at best, or if I`m feeling particularly strong I just drop it on me. I just dropped a 22 gallon gas tank that was full without a jack. It came down with out too much trouble but I drained it before I put it back up, no way I was going to be able to hold it up in place with 22 gallons of gas in it AND put the bolts in at the same time.

I made my own platform out of a flexplate. I welded a piece of pipe in the center on one side and it fits into my floor jack when I removed the swivel pad. On the other side I bolted a piece of ¾-inch plywood.
I have changed an TH-400 w/Transfer case, an SM-465, and have even used it to drop my burbs 44 gal gas tank twice. I have also used it to stand on once to reach something on a shelf.

I personally use a metal plate bolted to the top of my floor jack (with the pad removed). Works great for me.

just use a normal 22" jack but take out the jack pad itself if its removable and put on a piece of plywood w/ wood runners that can go round the pan. use a bolt and nut setup w/ it countersunk to hold it on the jack. its a 2 in one combo. ill see if i can get a pic of mine to show u how its done. just 5 extra bucks of wood is all it needs.

.
I've had my Sears trans jack for 20+ years. As someone mentioned, worth it's weight in gold, especially when alone.
I have seen a few adapters guys welded up for their floor jacks, worked excellent.
I just really like to be able to roll any direction.
