i have used a harbor freight 90 amp welder and it wasn't all the way up doing exhaust pipe and flanges. my lincoln 135 has to be turned all the way down to not run the risk of blowing through the pipe.

It will do exhaust all day long although you might not love the flux core wire. You can get mig conversions for them too. Mig is a much cleaner process for thin material like exhaust pipe.

Flux core is actually stronger than MIG welds due to better penetration at the same amperage, some people just don't like how it looks. I used a lincoln invertec the other day at work that a vendor had brought with him. I was quite suprised at how much lighter it was compared with my Miller and it welds just as well. DC is DC, it doesn't matter too much who makes it. As long as you use a high quality flux core wire such as Esab (first choice) or Uni-Braze your welds will be more than strong enough and with practice will be fairly good looking.

I've got the weldpak 100 with the mig conversion kit, and it works great for exhaust. I've welded stainless with it, and I've never had a problem with my welds. My dad has a similar machine, not lincoln, and he's used it for subframe connectors as well. Definately a good welder for the price when I got it, but I wonder if there might be something better now.

I have a cheap Campbell-Hausfeld 105A flux core welder, it does just fine on exhaust, brackets, other small stuff. Never had a weld fail with it. I'm not a pretty welder, but that's what my angle grinder is for. It can do MIG, but I don't have any of the 'stuff' to do it (regulator, gas, etc).

I have a big Lincoln AC stick welder for the big stuff.

Would like to replace them both with a real MIG setup one day...
