Default The Purp LSX Real Street Build & Magazine Project

Year: 1995
Make: Chevrolet
Model: Camaro
Price: $28500
Mileage: 0
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (State): FL
Color: Red
Transmission: Automatic
Drivetrain: Rear Wheel Drive

As much as it pains me to do it, I think it is time to part ways with The Purp. The engine, driveline, suspension, and chassis were completely built up in GM High-Tech Performance before the magazine was shuttered. It's first track test was covered by Super Chevy and there is one more story on the way to complete the project. The original plan was to build it for LSX Real Street and is just a nitrous system away from being competitive in the class. Otherwise this is a custom painted, turnkey racecar that drives straight as an arrow. As-is the car will run mid to high 9s. Here is a summary of the build:

http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...p-drag-racing/

Engine
-LME-built 451 LSX
-Wiseco gas-ported forged pistons
-Callies rotating assembly
-ARP studs
-RHS LS7 heads with Titanium valves
-Comp Cams solid roller cam and lifters
-Canton oil pan and valve covers
-Mast 2-piece intake
-Kooks 2-inch headers with race mufflers
-Moroso vacuum pump
-Holley EFI Dominator

Driveline
-Century Transmission Powerglide with transbrake
-Reid SFI case
-TCI shifter
-TCI converter and flexplate
-Strange S60 with 3.73 gears, spool, 35-spline axles, and drag brakes
-Strange chromoly driveshaft

Chassis/Suspension
-Chris Alston chromoly cage, NHRA certified to 8.50
-Simpson parachute and harnesses
-Burkhardt parachute and front bumper mounts
-BMR Suspension K-member, A-arms, Xtreme torque arm, Panhard bar, anti-roll bar, and control arms
-Strange DA front coilovers and rear shocks
-Kirkey seats (two different widths)
-ARC switch panel
-Holley digital display
-Autometer gauges
-Percy's Speedglass (front and rear)
-VFN Sunoco hood with Aerocatch latches

If you are considering running this class, this is probably the cheapest way in. The next event (LSX Shootout in Indy) is a month away, so there is plenty of time for testing prior. This car can easily be adapted for X275 or Ultra Street with a little work as well (plus local Real Street classes). And it has not been cut up, so it can easily be converted back to a streetcar if need be.

Thank you. Those are Holeshot Hole Star 15x10 with Titanium finish with Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial 275/60/15. On the one clean pass it went a 1.65 in the 60' on motor with these tires (@20psi).

FYI I will consider trades, especially Corvettes... Not looking to part out, but will consider reasonable offers.

Thinking about making this a roller for $16.5k. Everything but the engine. Any takers?

Update: it is going back to SAM for the final dyno tune. Unless I hear otherwise, the car will be coming back to FL after that in time for winter testing.

Here is the latest story:

http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...new-ls7-heads/

The motor is being freshened up by SAM right now and they are making a few small changes to squeak a little more power out of it.

Update: gained another 25hp and the car is ready to move. I dropped the price as well. Let me know ASAP if you are in Texas and interested because the car is coming back to FL soon.

Sale pending on the chassis. I should have the engine, trans, driveshaft, converter and maybe a few odds/ends available for sale/trade soon.
