Default Question for CA guys, getting rid of a car

I recently bought a cheap car I was going to fix up, but come to find out it needs a lot more extensive work (car is a 94 caddy w/ n* V8, needs headgaskets) than I can handle right now. I want it out of my garage but I doubt anyone will buy it. It has not been registered in my name or anything yet, sits as I bought it with the title signed over to me. What can I do to get rid of it legally? Maybe junk it? Or do I have to register it first? I don't know how cali works on this and I only got 45 minutes of hold trying to talk to the DMV about it. Anyone have some advice?

DO NOT donate a non-working car unless you are released from liability.

Then again, I don't know what charity would take it since they usually sell them at auction.

I'm not going to donate it, I pretty much want to junk it but thats what I was wondering. Do I need to fill out all that paperworks anyway? I never registered it in my name and I don't want to pay registration then send it to a junkyard.

I bought a 97 Camaro. Never signed any paper work. Stripped it, then called car junk haulers to come pick it up. They do not need any paper work. Some give you money for them, most nowadays do not. Check your local classifieds for the cranksters that haul cars.

Hope this helps

any idea how stripped a car can be for them to still come pick it up? i have a thirdgen that i stripped all interior body parts no motor or trans and no rear end. I was going to have to cut it and take it to the recycle place but if they can pick it up it'll save me a lot of time.

Wish I knew the details about the paperwork. I was just reading a few bad stories about donated cars recently.

I can't give a definitive answer, but I would surmise that unless the car plans to be registered again, you wouldn't need to do a thing.

Close, 4.6, but just as bad. I looked at the block, they have a STUPID *** open deck design, I can't imagine what the idea was behind that. Open water jacket at the top of the piston? Brilliant. This car overheats in record time, less than 45 second from full cold. Oh well, theres the biggest collection of junkyards in SoCal like 4 miles from my house, so I'll drive it over there and dump it off this weekend.
