I have two cars with T56 transmissions. One that I've put over 100k miles on myself. I have never noticed any heat from either. I use Valvoline MaxLife dex/merc in both cars.

I'm driving mine without the shift boot because I broke it when I installed the new shifter. It gets hot for sure, but nothing unbearable. I'm using whatever ATF fluid recommended from the factory that I put in around 10k miles ago.

i dont get heat from my shift **** but of coarse i do from the shift stick
which is normal with aftermarket shifts and stick,

btw the fluid is not really a big deal and i highly doubt it caused any heat increase
the only time ive seen fluid choice resulting with problems is when running synthetic or royal purple(worst thing for a t56)

myself i preference two quarts of dex/mer and then two quarts of type f

I'm an auto guy but I always thought the syncromesh was better for these trannys.
