Popping the Cherry!!! First time to the track need some help/advice!
Hey guys. I'm going to the track for the first time tomorrow night and I'm looking for some help and advice from you guys with experience. Mods are in my sig, I will be running street tires. Nitto 555's 285/35/18 what PSI should I lower my rears to and also what should I have the fronts at. I have Adj. shocks, should I go full soft al the way around or stiff up front? Are there any other things that you guys think will help me out? Or maybe some things to do at the track that is courteous or some "unwritten rules?" I am running street tires because I am currently still on the stock 10-bolt, and this is my daily driver. Any advice on my launch that will help cut decent 60's without destroying my rear? I am going to Famoso in Bakersfield if that makes any sort of difference with anything. I have my Snell helmet, but I don't have a DS loop. How many runs will they let you do before they kick you off for being too fast? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get all the info I need in order to make the most out of my first time. I know I can post this in the drag racing section, but I figured I'd get more replies here. Last but not least what do you guys think I'll run? Thanks for any help/advice in advance I really appreciate it.

I'd say your in the 12's with a bad launch. And when u do the burnout at famoso don't go passed the staging lane, they got on me about that. It's not like irwindale where u can burnout half track. Lol. Make sure your tires are nice and dry when u leave the burnout box, but sticky. And when u see the last yellow like half way on all the way take off. Don't leave at green or your RT is gonna suck ***

Damn, Monster lvl 5 clutch and a Stg 2 built trans but you still have the stock 10-bolt, lol. Just blow it up, it will force you to get a built rear end sooner. Hold it right off the rev limiter and pop the clutch on the green. JK, don't do that. Each track is different. I say start off at around 3k rpm, slip the clutch a little, don't pop the clutch. After that dial in the right launch rpm and how quickly you let off the clutch and roll into the gas.

LOL. Why did you say "J/k"? I'm sure the 10-bolt can handle it. Yeah your right everything but the rear, the last piece to the puzzle just so happens to be the most important for the track. Any ideas on tire pressures or shock settings?

well the 555s are going to save your rear, set your front shocks to stiff, don't bother with tire pressure, and make sure when you stage that you are staging your front wheels and not your rear wheels
Or else you will be one of those guys that's all ready launch, your rpms are up and you have the track officials knocking on your window telling you to move back.
there should be cones where your front wheels should be (its really amazing how many people do this)
like srj said try to launch at 3k with as much slip as that clutch will allow(not much) and when the tires spin let up some and pedal first out the hole and make a quick shift to second
ill probably be there tomorrow with a couple of my cobra buddies and i can help you out some if you would like

Yeah man that sounds good. What time should I try to get there if the gates open at 7? Someone told me around 6. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do you guys have a specific area where you park. I'm going solo since most of the cars in my area are either down or just not going. If you want you can PM me your number and I'll text you or something when I'm getting close to the track. Oh and I also forgot to mention I have UMI LCA's and LCA brackets.

I'll try the 15-18 PSI on the tires. Soul TKR just go to the track and see what it runs, if it blows you'll have a very good reason to buy that rear. LOL. Just run street tires, I doubt they will hook enough to tear up the rear, or at least I hope mine won't, Haha.

Getting ready to leave. Just finished up washing the car. Gonna get all my **** together and head out. I'll let you guys know what I run. Thanks to all for the advice and help. If you guys can think of anything else post it up, I'll be able to check the thread on the phone. Oh and one last thing should I set my rear shocks to full soft or firm? Shocks have settings from 1-8, 8 being the firmest. Thanks again.

Just got back. Dear God I could not get the car to launch without spinning. My first run was a 13.171 @ 111.27, 2.298 60'. It spun off the line but when it got traction it moved out. Second run was my best run of the night, 12.996 @ 114.92, 2.276 60'. Next run I spun badly and last run same story. The car feels really strong and is begging for a 12 bolt with some drag radials or slicks. I think the MPH is a good sign of what the car has in it, but I don't know for sure. What do you guys think?

Definitely a humbling experience. I think if I had a few more cracks at it I could maybe launch the car a bit better and hit a 12.7 or so. The car definitely needs a pair of drag radials or slicks, but that won't happen until I get a 12 bolt since the cars my DD and I can't afford to break the ten bolt. Oh and thanks for the light last night man I appreciate it. I'll probably go again here soon, man it was fun. It's safe to say I'm hooked.
