WCCH. A stg 2 port job with a new spring kit is $1170. thats not bad at all. if u dont need the springs its in the mid 900 range for machine work only. that $1170 price is using your stock valves. i was told by richard himself that upgraded valves have minimal advantages of upgraded flow. go to WCCH.

I don't have 1120 for this job. I will be buying the springs myself, but really want my heads done.

The absolute cheapest guy I know that produces results is around $700, no springs/valves. For that price I'd be more confident taking it to WCCH for a few hundred more just to know that it was done properly, and by a CNC machine and not hand ported.

Patriot will run them on their CNC machine for $600. Give them a shout.

Another vote for WCCH. I loved the ported 243's I ran from them.

OP, as soon as you started to mention budget and looking for a hookup in LA I pitured a shady shop that would gladly take your money as their "tech" used a die grinder and fucked up all your ports and chambers and turned your heads into really heavy paper weights. Then you'd wonder why your budget build makes **** for power, lol. Just sharing my thoughts...

If you're on a budget, I would leave the heads stock and change the cam/valvetrain if you haven't done that yet.

the machine work only runs mid $900. does your motor have the stock cam? if so just have him check if your springs are good and just pay the machine work fee.

if u cant swing that maybe find some 241 heads that u can port yourself as a lil project and leave your 243 heads alone until you can swing the price for machine work.

I guess I'll just save up a little more to get them properly ported and polished. I have an ms3 cam to go along with it, that's why I need springs aswell

You'll be so happy you did.
Now about that cam...sell it and get a different one, something better suited for a 346 w/ ported heads and bolt-ons.

I did a lot of research, yet Im not looking for HUGe flow numbers. I bought a kit from summit and read tons of post, saw many pics, saw video's and I did my own. The machine shopped asked who ported these heads, I said I did. He's been in business for 25years and said they look GREAT!!! At first I said your BS'ing me, and he said they really look good. There are many threads and pics to read up on. granite it took me about 12 hours per head but it's worth it.

You cant get GOOD cylinder head work for cheap. It just doesnt happen. And I honestly dont see anything wrong with a reputable hand porter. I can tell you I paid almost what patriot charges to do there program, just for a valve job, and some bowl/throat blending. Granted, I paid for a reputable fella to do them for me. Im 100% confident in the work, and that came at a price. Like the old adage goes, "You get what you pay for"

I would think the biggest cost to hand-ported cylinder heads is the man-hours involved. CNC porting I guess would be partly the machine cost, the machine operating costs, and the CNC programming/testing cost. Feel free to chime in if you disagree...

Just buy a used set of PRC 243's on here for around $700 or so. My 243's seem to be doing pretty well even on a 402 with a big cam. I'll probably be swapping them out in the future for some that flow better though. You will also be able to sell your unported 243's and end up paying like $500 for some good used PRC's.

Just a thought...
