So your saying if you don't have the right tools then you have to add 6 hours of labor? Hopefully you never open up a shop.

OP doesn't seem like he has all the tools, I'm answering accordinly... Of course if u have a tower to hold the engine in place u can do it, which I have plenty of tools to do it. And if working with blocks is having the proper tools I hope u never open a shop... You will have blocks and bricks as Jack stands and emergency jacks as your lifts.

OP the proper way of changing the oil pan gasket is by holding the engine in place with a brace on top, dropping the cross member and be very careful with the brake lines. It's not an hour job so it's not that easy.

Or he can drop the engine out and put it on a engine stand

As for the blocks of wood that is what I used to improvise a long time ago before I got a crossbar, i'm just giving him a better option than removing the engine . If your smart it will work and be safe considering he has jack stand and a working jack.

I'll rather go straight then go right and end up doing circles.

Anything is possible. And can I ask where do u hold the engine with the Jack stand and blocks? Is it at the crank pulley? If so you will be putting so much stress on that pulley and u run the risk of ruining the balancer and falling. Seems pretty left to me :/

Engine stand is Always good. While it's there u can reseal the whole engine, if the oil pan gasket is leaking then I'm sure other seals the same age will. That's what I did, took the extra time and replaced all the seals, and I mean all.

Is that when you found out your engine had a cam sensor?

This is why I put a question mark in there! It was a question not saying you did. And I thought it had a cam sensor just couldn't see it so figured it didn't have one. Once I cleaned The engine I saw it lol. My bad

No matter what they oil pan gasket is a bitch to do. Not a civic that is right there and then. I really hate those 3800 oil pan gaskets too. like the ones on the montanas and impalas. those are a bitch straight up and no blocks or stands will help u.

If he is asking how to remove a oil pan gasket then what makes your think he can remove an engine? BTW out cars have a crank position sensor as well and a PCM that receives the input.

Yes, our cars have 8 cylinders. That means you need 8 of them to spark each one.
