azdeq, says that what ever smog related your truck came with from factory need to be present on the truck.

i would look under the hood at the factory decal and see what the truck had (i.e) cat, egr, smog pump.

you can also call azdeq and see if there is change to the law, and maybe you can get the truck changed to a obd2 specs?

LOL I got rid of my smog pump, have no cats, and a different motor than factory. Was in and out of emissions testing in AZ in about 5-10 minutes. All they checked were to see if I was throwing any codes and that my gas cap sealed properly

same with my gto, but its a obd2 car.

his truck is a 85 and they will run it as such, so it has to do the im137 rolling test and gets a full visual inspection. so any of the original emission devises that are not there, will fail him.

he can only hope that he might get a variance is he upgrades the truck to a complete obd2 system? but i dont believe that az allows this. they pretty much go by the year of the vehicle and emissions at that time.

turbo dosent matter here! we had a 2000 z28 with a gt42 and a turbo 400 trans and all they did was run the scanner and see no codes and passed the car!

got to love ls1 edit.

They don't care... they didn't even pop my hood. No visual inspection.

I called they said that because I'm swapping an engine with OBD2 that I could get a conversion and I would be able to take of my smog pump and all that nonsense
