Default Anyone know of a shop that can rebuild my T-56?

sounds like my synchro shims are done, so I need a shop that will drop it, replace whatever needs to be replaced, and and re-install it.

I'd rather the shop be one that has done this before, and knows about the LS7 clutch with LS2 flywheel on 4th gen f-bodies and is aware of the carbon fiber synchro shim replacements.

thanks in advance guys!

Contact JFR Motors in Costa Mesa. He's a member on here under KILLER-Z28 and is an LS specialist. 714-557-5371. He's more than qualified to take care of your car!

i can personally vouch for the toy shop in pomona.
had nothing but positive experiences with all their rebuilt transmissions when i worked at strictly years ago.
also, might try to contact a local member here under the screen name "haighter."
hes a great builder and rebuilt a good friends transmission years ago and its still performing great behind a 500whp z28

Dropped my car off today @Toy Shop, Kendall will be calling me to advise of what needs to be done.
I'm very confident that they're gonna do a great job

Howd it go with your trans? How much did you guys spend around and for what? Think mine is taking a crap but not sure if it's just the clutch which I've only had on for a year but doesn't slip or the actual trans, want to take it off and send it somewhere to get looked over but don't want the car down for too long....
If any of you guys can give an update on your trans id really appreciate it

I'm hoping to drop off my car (assuming 2nd gear gets here this week) off at Current Auto Performance in El Cajon on Friday. They have done some work for me in the past so I'll be posting a review of how things go on this once I get the car back. I liked the idea of working with a local shop so I know who to harass if it isn't done right.

That being said I've ordered all of the parts through vendors on here so far before dropping the car off.

Nice so you just bought everything yourself and dropping it off to get everything put on? How much did all the parts run around? Wish I was confident enough to tear the trans apart n do it myself lol

But I'm told I'm better off just buying a good used t56 than rebuilding it since I'm close to stock power and don't plan on doing much to it anytime soon
But wana see cost difference first

Slapping in a used one and selling your old one is the cheapest route. I wasn't comfortable running another high mileage t-56 especially since my year end goal is 500rwhp. I probably went a little overboard ordering parts but I wanted to make sure at least all of the hard to get stuff is getting replaced regardless of if it needs it.

-Gearbox.org stage 2 kit: ~$700
-Complete Koyo bearing kit ~$150
-1st, 2nd and 3rd gear ~$150 each
-New Tick hydraulics ~$450
-Monster Stage 2 clutch ~$530
-MGW Shifter ~$220
-ARP hardware ~$50

I was quoted $1300 for labor to rebuild and replace the clutch so the total is ~$3850 without the clutch and hydraulics it'd be like $2800. I'm probably overpaying but I want to do it right once. And of course if they open up the trans and I need reverse or something else the price goes up. The cheaper option is to have a shop tear it down and then only replace what you need, unless all of your gears are shot it would probably be closer to $2000 without a clutch and stuff. For the record 2nd gear is like impossible to get, I've been trying for close to 2 months and hopefully it is going to get here this week.

After all this I'm hoping to have a pretty slick shifting t56 that I can beat the **** out of.

Totally rebuilt tranny they polished the forks, forged forks on 3 & 4, carbon fiber synchro shims, brass as opposed to plastic whatevers, they like Mobil 1 synthetic, replaced the clutch shim/bearing whatever, existing LS7 clutch was only 4k miles old so it was in great shape.
$2000 cash.
Shifting has never been better.
It's wonderful redlining and shifting from 2nd to 3rd to 4th, that bitch is screaming like when I just had it tuned by CMS. And with 103k factory miles that says a lot.

I'm peanut butter and jealous, when I bought my car 3rd was grinding, then 2nd started to grind, then 1st. Did you get billet keys and all that jazz too?

Lawd Jeebuz those where the prices I was afraid of but expecting lol

Mine just started grinding after going solid motor mounts, unsure if that had anything to do with it but grinding at high Rpm so gotta granny shift and let the rpms go down or I get grinding...
Swapped my master clutch cyl 2 weeks ago with ticks but no luck...
I'm in denial that it's the clutch since I barely have a year with it but I do drive the hell out of the car(LS2 GTO LT's/no cats/intake/Diablo tune/solid motor mounts/trans poly mount insert) swapped the clutch around 80k miles when my slave cylinder went out, I now have about 135k it's an ls7 pressure plate and disc with lightweight fidanza flywheel... Maybe my hard driving wasnt a match for it... Or it's the salve giving out? Or the pressure plate messed up? Im lost since it doesn't slip at all grabs just fine it's just switching gears at mid to high rpm.... Well since if I rebuild the trans ima get a new clutch anyway I'll just buy a clutch and if that doesn't solve it at least I'll have my clutch already on -__- while my trans is being rebuilt... Fml

Really appreciate the replies though gentlemen, really helpful for when I look around now knowing how much I'm looking at and for what, I thought id go weeks with no replies

They built my tranny for running on the twisties so it's not as beefy or necessary to build the T56 for my specs but if I wanted I could build an engine up to 600hp and I won't have a problem.
I never take off from a dig, but I've abused 3rd & 4th the most so he got those forged.
The rest are factory.
He said my application didn't need a factory spec Viper internal T56 and I believed him. Shifting forks were polished prior to installation

Shifts great.
GREAT
