Texas Member lookin for help near Costa Mesa
Hi all, I am form Texas and I would like to buy a 1991 Camaro out of Costa Mesa California. ( inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/4917395460.html ) I have never tried buying anything out of state unless the seller had a goo trader rating on tech. This is a lot of money for me so I want to be as safe as possible. If any members local to the area with good trader rating would like to check thus out for me, I will be happy to compensate you for your time. I can be text at 979-482-3965 Thanks for you guys time.

he could sell it to you as long as the pink he got from the original owner is all signed. its as illegal as headers lol
fees wouldnt matter since he would be registering out of state, the late fees or CALIFORNIA fees
do we know its illegal, yes, do we still do it, hell yes lol

I have purchased..and sold cars not in the "owners" name. Only thing is I don't know if Texas requires a motorized signature. And late fees don't matter as its going to be registered out of state.

You can still buy it if it's not in his name. If you are worried about anything, just make copies of his drivers license, get his address, etc. Have him meet you at his home, not some random parking lot. If he is a confident seller he won't mind.
If his name is already handwritten on the back of the title, (not the printed name on the front) have him fill out a DMV bill of sale (Form 262) to transfer it to you.
If none of the above makes you comfortable, have him go with you to the California DMV to transfer it in his name first, and tell the clerk you are buying it off of him right then and there.
Like said above the back fees won't matter. The Texas DMV will just ask you how long it has been in Texas and base the fees off of that.

I apologize for not updating thus far. I updated the Texas section add but didn't think to update this one. I ended up flying out there and picking this car up and driving it back to Texas. It is registered in my name now. I was able to meet with the previous owner and get the proper paperwork signed before I left. Thanks Burken01 for Checking out the car for me and thanks for the advise from the rest of you.
