1973 and back don't need smog. I can get all political about this crappy left wing blue colored democratic liberal state that we call liberalfornia and why it's hard to own the good stuff but I'm not gonna go there. There's lots of aftermarket performance parts that are smog legal for California. Just keep it legal and you don't have nothing to worry about.

I used to drive an SRT4 with a fully built engine, giant cams, big turbo with the exhaust having no muffler of any type and routed out the front bumper. Never got pulled over once and I live in Orange County. Don't look like a scum bag or drive like ****

I used to drive around in a big cammed camaro, electric cutout stock exhuast to stay low key, never had no issue's , don't draw attention and you'll be OK, 95 % of officers have better **** to do.

I would agree with you NORCALMUSCLE1 normal cops do have better **** to do, like catch real criminals and fight real crime but the CHP are horrible there and have nothing better to do than pull over hotrods for stupid ****. I used to get pulled over all the time just driving normal. I actually have been pulled over twice for just idling at a stop light. the only thing that saved me was that my car wasn't registered in CA it was registered in NC.

This is the reason I pulled my car off the streets and went straight track. I got tired of giving money to the state of CA, rather than my car for mods. And I drive like a grandma.

Don't drive like a ahole with loud exhaust. If its CHP they tend to get more **** about looking "under" a car they pull over for loud exhaust (or driving like a dick). Mostly looking to see if CATS have been eliminated....big $ fine...and lets not forget...it is ALL about the ticket revenue

I have a 96 H/cam/header/383 car that is 100% smog legal and I get zero breaks at the Test Only station when I need smog. Right parts and the right tune make all the difference

Do I leave horsepower on the table as a result, yes.

In L.A. County they don't even raise the hood. They just write you for noise & modified exhaust & you're off to see the ref anyway. Noise is a simple fix, but modified exhaust not so much.

I had LT's and cats but with the GMMG catback exhaust, was pulled over 5-6 times and I said f#$k this I sold the GMMG and luckily I found the SLP optional dual-dual muffler for 50 bucks, no issues since. I've been pulled over and was questioned about my car but the Anaheim PD guy was cool when I told them it was factory exhaust, the CME tips were the only modified item, they let me go...twice.
Getting it smogged is a different matter, it wouldn't pass visual. It passes the sniffer but not the visual

I have a 5th Gen with an AGP twin turbo kit on my car. If you pop the hood, you cant see ****. It all under the car and its stock height is to low for them to lay down and look under it. If they pop the hood, only thing they can see is the methanol injection tank and if they ask what that is, its my wiper fluid.
