Default New Heads or Port/polish Stock Heads?

Ive heard that the stock heads arent really worth messing with. But i have an extra set of stock heads and all i would have to do is have them cleaned and ported and polished. I have an 02 Z28 M6 DD. Im not looking for something crazy...maybe add a mild cam, pushrods, double roller timing chain, double valve springs, and 1.8 roller rockers. Plus does anyone know what this kind of set up will do to gas mileage with my bolt ons?

so kyle wants to start modding for real?

gas mileage will go down some with heads and a small cam, maybe 5mpg.

id say a TR224 cam with ported heads and the 1.8's would be good for s DD.

what springs do you plan on running? thoes and the cam's powerband tell you where you can rev to.

check up on the cam at www.thunderracing.com itll show you the specs.

with the heads done, that cam and a good dynotune i would say around 390rwhp or a little more. but you gotta loose the shorties and the tornado for thoes numbers.

Why would you spend money on 1.8 rockers and a 224 cam?
Why not just get the cam ground with the proper lift and not have the extra expense of the rockers?

Heads & Spec'd Cam will be your best bet. Save the money on the rockers and get a set Of Longtube Headers.

hes scared of smogging the car

my friend has JBA shorties, ported stock castings a TR224 cam and a dyno tune, cutout and put down a little over 400 and can still pass, so i think that would be his best option.

I thought RR might help, but they can always wait. The deal is that i have an extra set of stock heads and im saving up for the rest. The main point here is driveability. This car is my DD and i dont want to sacrifice ALL of my mpg.

^^^ I agree with Alex. Save the money for something else like a tune.
