Default Smog & Spilt Cam In Cali

Im getting ready to buy a cam pretty soon and was looking at the 224/224 .563/.563 114 LSA and the split pattern 224/227 .563/.569 114 LSA. I need to be able to pass the sniffer with the cam I go with. I know you can pass with the first one but can you pass with the split pattern or is the split pattern even a better choice for me??

My mods will consist of hooker 1 3/4 long tubes, catted y, slp lm, ls6 or fast intake and a 100-150 shot of nitrous.....then later down the road ill be adding heads but not for sometime after, Thx

It really depends on the tune. Some tuners have gotten bigger cams than that to pass Smog. It will be more about the cam's valve events and that includes lift as well as duration and lobe seperation.

Let me qualify that, local tuners have gotten 228R's on 114LSA to pass. Nick at Newtech, Robert at Advanced Dyno, and even Rick at Synergy (despite my personal differences with him) should be able to tune it for you; if you are in NorCal.

well i have the TR 224/224 cam but on a 112, is it possible to get this cam to pass smog? also, i have slp longtubes that i plan on ditching, is it worth keeping getting a 114 cam if the 112 won't pass and i have to choke the engine down with short tubes? i am moving back to the sacramento area next year.

What does a visual have to do with a Cam? I have always read that if the car passes the sniffer It can lope as much as it wants..

Visual Dan, there are 2 parts to a smog test.

Better question, what does lope have to do with the visual??? Or headers???

Ouch Dan, you're hurting my brain.

I don't know a lot about cams or smogs obviously..LOL..I have read a bunch of posts with the 224 224 114 passing smog without a problem. I don't know about the 224 227
