Default Need CA smog check info please?

I'm moving to Orange County, CA from Texas at the end of november, I have a 94 Z and a 98 V6 bird.

What do they check for during the smog check?
what are legal, illegal mods in CA?

Thanks,
jc

Basically, if your car's not stock, it's illegal here... How about listing whats done to your cars and we'll let you know if you'll pass

the bird is all stock, except that its got an 02 LS1 stock cat back.

the Z has a cat but its gutted, the rest of the exhaust is stock. still has air pump and EGR and don't plan to take those out. it runs high 13's right now on old tires. I have pacesetter LT's, wanted to go true duals w/dual magnaflow cats, X-pipe to two single-in/single-out magnaflow mufflers. might skip the x-pipe. Also, I have an LT4 hotcam, 1.6rockers and ported heads to install. Is all of this illegal in CA?

Your going to fail the sniffer with a gutted cat, and LT's are going to fail the visual inspection because it moves the cats out of the stock position. I suggest looking for a shady place that will overlook the visual.

so am I screwed either way,
I know I have to put "working" cats on my Z, will dual cats work?
and for the V6, if the exhaust manifold and cat are stock why would the muffler matter?

It doesn't as it pertains to smog. The V6 is fine.

I didn't expect the V6 to be a problem,
I know I have work to do on the Z and I really don't want to sell it, however, I'm looking at a bunch of sigs with modded exhaust and somehow they got their smog check.

I guess I should just take the Z without the LT's, add a stock cat, get the smog check then put the goodies in.

I hope you have the stock lids as well, my starquest just failed because it didn't have a case arounf the air filter. I can't even buy an air filter for that car that isn't special order let alone find a sotck intake cover thing.
