Default Anyone in the L.A. area?

Wondering if any of you F-body brethren could hook a brother up here. I'm looking to buy an '02 Z28, but I don't want to spend the money to fly out there if this car is not legit.

There's a bit of a story to this car, long story short it's an old man's car. He died a couple years ago and left it to his grandson. This kid "can't afford this car and my new one". Well, what originally was told to me about a door separation on the passenger side has turned out to be full-on door damage.

He wants $9,000 for this car. At this point, based on some half-assed responses I've gotten I don't know what to do.

Could/would any of you car savvy guys be able to meet up with this kid and get a TRUE assessment of the condition of this car, damage, etc.?? I can give you his contact info. He lives 30 miles south of L.A.

Only other info I have on this car is that it needs tires, has 18,000 miles on it, and the current owner had to go through some legal B.S. so the car sat at his Aunt's driveway for a year.

Please help!

Do you have an exact city? not just "30 miles south of L.A."...

i live about 30 miles south of LA, but theres about 15-20 cities that fall into that category.

that damage looks horrible. for 9K the rest of the car must be immaculate.

Is that the one on craigslist? I can help you out also if he's around the Long Beach area.

I think it's this one.

There's more to this story. I just called camarojunky74 and he's got the skinny. I'll post up more later.

I'd follow your gut. Sounds like you have some reservations, the story told to you has changed, so I'd look for another one, IMO.

Realistically, what I see needs to be done (if it was my car in this condition): get the damn title for the car so it's in your hands, and either get it fixed before you sell it, or be willing to cut your losses and let it go the way it sits.

He claims he knows someone that can do the entire fix for $900, and asked me if I'd just come and give him the money and be willing to sit there in L.A. for 3 or 4 days while it's fixed. OK, so yeah I'll just pay $50 a day, plus a rental (I ain't sittin' in my room the whole time), + feeding myself each day while the car gets fixed. Additionally, which I told him, I don't want to chance having any warranty issues with the repair and me being 800 miles away from the shop if I do happen to run into a problem. Doesn't make sense!

Sounds to me like way too much work for nothing. I would just find a car around where youre at. you'll probably spend 500 or so just in gas to get back to your place. Im sure there will be a car around you somewhere that is reasonable.

I've already Google'd the location; I can get it home in about 3 tanks of gas.

i would pass on that ****, theres more than just door damage, you can see the rear quarter is dented in bad where the damage is, that is not cheap to fix, the whole quarter has to be replaced if you want it fixed right. When my bro-in-law scraped my 02 trans am it cost over 900 just to get that fixed. I think you would be better off finding something near where you are, plus if it has sat for a year who knows what needs to be fixed on it.
