Default Selling a car I just bought? Cali?

Does anyone know what the cali rules are for selling a car that was just recently purchased? I got this thing as a DD about a month ago and I turned the title in to the DMV when I regged it. I'm pretty much selling it on short notice, a guy just happened to offer me money for it, but I don't have a new title from the DMV yet. Anyone have some experience with this? Can I just do a bill of sale and he will receive the title?

I'm pretty sure you need to have the actual title in possesion to sign over to him. Maybe dmv can give you a temp. title if you both go there? I don't see why you should have to wait the month and a half to get it, its all done electronically anyways..

Ithink the 2 major things are writing a legal bill of sale and then sigining a contract stating that the title is forthcoming, but has a continjency due to the Department of Motor-Vehicles of California.
Personally I think if you did this then you would have covered your ***, HJey but I am not a lawyer so dont quote me

nope
I do this ALL the time...

go to the dmv... get the yellow/orange colored "bill of sale/mileage disclosure" form(its on the wall) and fill that out. That with a smog cert. he can go register it and when you DO receive the title just discard it, he'll get his own.

with that paper, you will not need a title in hand.

Well half of that I can do, the car won't pass smog so I can't get him a smog cert. He's not going to drive it anyway, he wants it to restore so I guess that doesn't matter.

I just tried to go to the DMV and get that form, they don't have anything where you can get at it. You have to wait thru the 50 person appointment line to even find out where you can get the paper.

oh if you have a AAA by you, call and ask if they have a dmv inside. No one knows that they usually do so there is never a line.

well i bought my car once the guy finished paying it off the same month so dint have the title yet.
so i did a bill of sale saying that i will return and pay the rest of the money i owe when he gives me the title.
i took the car home and in two weeks i returned to get the title from him and pay him the rest.
