Default Hood heat absorber?

The black pad that is attached to the underside of the hood, whatever it is called, is it bad to not have that attached? I just bought a new WS6 hood, but it doesn't have the holes drilled for the black pad, only the hardware. I'm about to get the whole car painted today, so I have a few days to figure it out, but I'm wondering if there are any bad side effects for the fiberglass or paint if that black pad isnt attached?

Uhhh, what black pad?

If it's any consolation, I don't happen to have one either, but I didn't know the difference since my Formula came with a WS6-type hood.

Its just a black pad that is held up by 5 push pins...I'm pretty sure it acts as a heat absorber but if you don't have one then I guess I'm not too worried heh

Here's some feedback from what I've noticed:
1. I've had the car for 3 years (hood is 3+ years old) and nothing has happened to the paint because of the heat.
2. I notice rectangular shape marks on the hood when the car is cold and/or has dew on it and has been run for a long time (from the thin part of the hood, about even with the valve covers). It's as if the water is evaporating quicker from that area due to the heat, that would be my guess.
